Lesson 23: Understanding Jealousy vs Envy

By- Paresh Chitnis

Jealousy and envy are used interchangeably in everyday language and popular culture. But technically, they are different. Envy involves two persons. Envy is when you want what the other person has. Jealousy is when you feel threatened to lose something or someone to another person. As Philosopher John Rawls said: “Jealousy involves the wish to keep what one has, and envy the wish to get what one does not have.”

Jealousy is seen in the upper zone of the handwriting and envy is seen in the lower zone.

The wavy t cross bar on left is called a jealousy stroke. Jealous people do not like someone achieving something more or better than them.
Check your handwriting for the jealousy stroke.
